He is risen! And so was I, at about 9:00 this morning. Now that my kid is older, I get to sleep in a bit. The day is beautiful, Mass wasn’t too crowded, and now I’m getting some work done while my girls are in the kitchen making my “surprise” birthday cake for tomorrow.

Later, I’ll make a nice steak for dinner, and then they will go see Hamilton while I stay home alone and enjoy more quiet.

I hope you all have a nice relaxing day to reflect on whatever is important to you about this day.

I saw chocolate crosses for the first time last Tuesday. I couldn't help but wonder if this is kind of blasphemous... Turning the method of execution of the Messiah into a delicious snack... Am I alone on this island?

Someone gave me one a number of years ago, and I kind of grimaced for the same reason. I found out it’s a thing in the South. I don’t know why people don’t seem to see any religious conflicts in that, given how enthusiastic some of the denominations down here can be about their Christianity.

I’ve never seen a chocolate crucifix in person, but I have online. That feels a lot closer to the line, if not over it. Thank goodness no one seems to have tried to carry the holiday conflation to its logical confectionary conclusion and made a chocolate Easter Bunny crucified o n a chocolate cross.
